power english, 2024. 11. 5

 hi everyone

I am Christen cho

and I am Kemeren ward

thank you so much for tunning in

we have a very special travel destination this week

yes

I really there was a series on one of the streaming sites

okey

and it was called osark

a, that's the area of us---

ya, ozark

and it's very interesting

it was an interesting series

because, you saw like a whole area that you don't really quite know about

for someone who is from LA

fair enouth, it's in the middle of US, population like arent about the people

ozark is mountain range in the middle of US

middle of the US

yes, so

title for today is, episode is hiking the appalachian trail, it's been a dream of mine

so, I want to ask you

do people want to or dream about hiking the appalachian trail?

I have heard about this

so, the appalachian trail, 애팔란치아 산맥,

so, there is a trail that goes up a course that you can hike through

and there are some people that go from south to north or north to south

and only it's on the easten side so, this is going through like Georgia, Alabama, up through Tennessee,

Kentuchy, into Pennsylvania

wow

I think you can go all the ways up into Canada, possibly

wa, this is pretty much all of the east coast

ys, all of the east coast

so, there is the, the actual part next to the sea, and then

after you get the flat part by the sea, there is this mountain range

it's one of the two big mountain ranges in the US

very good

so, a little bit of a lesson on the American geography

and also, travelling,

but, in this case, hiking

okey,

here is some expressions that we are going to cover

if you set off on, usually like a journey, or set off on something

what does this mean?

you are beginning a journey

you are leaving

you are going from a start point

and you are going toward a destanation

very good

how about drop out?

this means, you are stopping

you are doing something, and like now I give up

I give up, okey

and last one

to put someone through the wringer

wringer is spelled w r i n g e r

so, this is whenever you are making something difficult for someone

you are making a situation difficult maybe a good way like in training

yes

let's get right to our subject today,

portion sizes which means the mount of food that you get

portion size is 1인분 양, how much for one person

platter (음식을 차려 내는데 쓰는 큰 서빙용)접시

everybody have to order something, it's etiquette 식당에서 모든 사람이 주문해양한다

doggy bag

portion sizes are about to get smaller in the us

    I think it's a not such a bad thing

    I think it's a good thing

because a lot of food is being wasted

shoot someone down = to reject something

eat out = you are not eating at home, you are goint to restaruant and eating

gain ground 전전을 이루다/ 더 강해지다/ (인기, 지지 등을)엉다
