Originally, it was a very crowded place, but
after COVID-19, the number of tourists has decreased,
you can feel the atmosphere of Hanok more quietly.

The most of the Hanoks were developed between the 1920s and 1960s.
It is recommended to walk through the alleys of Hanok and look around workshops, prop shops, art galleries, and traditional tea cafes.

Since it is a village where actual residents live,
It is etiquette as a tourist to look around without making too much noise.
///////////////////////////////
The Bukchon Hanok Village is a major tourist attraction that shows the history of Korea.
It is a real tourist attraction where foreigners can freely experience the exterior and interior of Hanok.
It leads to Insa-dong and Samcheong-dong streets, so it is the best all-in-one package for walking, eating, and shopping.
Since the residents actually live, it is important to tour in a quiet manner, not to disturb them.
If you want to explore the Hanok Village for a longer period of time, I recommend that you book a Hanok Stay and also visit traditional tea cafes, prop shops, and art galleries.

Bukchon Hanok Village preserves about 1,500 Hanoks.
Here is a very special place where you can meet both the past and the present of Seoul.
When was the village built?
These Hanoks were built around the 1920s, with the addition of Western architechtural features. They are combined. That's why we call them 'Modern Hanok'.
Then, can you distinguish Hanoks here from their more traditional counterparts?
what do you think the differences are?
Wait, I believe traditional Hanoks are built with timbers only, not bricks.
Correct, they are timber-framed. But look at the window there.
They used glass, not Changhoji.
Also, the rafters are shorter compared to more traditional houses, (서까래가 원래 길레 뽑아져 있는데) which resemble tin roof.(양철 지붕)
By the way, besides ourselves, (우리 말고도), I can see many foreigners here(많은 외국인들이 보이네요)
That's right.
Actually, this street is one of the most beautiful parts in Eight Scenic Views of Bukchon Hanok Village.(북촌8경중 하나)
And as it's one of the three most popular places for foreign visitors among Seoul Guided Walking Tour programs, this place is always crowede with tourists.(서울도보해설관광 외국인 인기코스 top3, 외국 관광객에게 꾸준히 사랑받는 명소)
On top of that, as we explore the village together, you would understand why this village is so popular.

Bukchon is one of the most famous tourist attractions where people can sense both Seoul's past and present.
That's why it[s one of the most frequently requested courses by foreigners when they come to Korea.
I'm very curious of what Bukchon Hanok Village is like.
Alright then, now
We'll start by looking around Unhyeongung Palace, the starting point of today's course.
Unhyeongung Palace
This is the first visiting area of the course, Unhyeongung Palace.
I've heard a lot about Gyongbokgung Palace and Changdeokgung Palace, but it's a first hearing Unhyeongung Palace
That may be because this wasn't the palace where a king lived.
It was the home of Heungseon Daewongun of the royal blood.
As the young Heungseon Daewongun's son became king, the palace got its name Unhyeongung Palace.
Then, lets/ take a look at the beauty of the elite's traditional Hanok home of Heungseon Daewongun, who acted a regent for 10 years and enyoued a lot of power.
This is Unhyeongung Palace's Sarangchae, called Noandang, A guest room.
Noan derived from NojaAnji of 'The Analects of Confucius'
It means living the rest of your life in peace at an old age.
The words of this signboard were by Joseon's best calligrapher, Chusa Gim Jeong-hui
(Pyeonaek: A frame hung in the mid-upper section of a gatehouse or building)
It's a Pyeonaek made by piecing his word together one by one.
This place is where Heungseon Daewongun substantially used it as a politics space, acting as a regent for 10 years.
At that time, this was the center stage for Joseon's politics.
Now, shall we go to Anchae Norakdang? Manin building of a house.
This is Norakdang, the Anchae of Unhyeongung Palace.
It's the center building inside Unhyeongung Palace.
When Emperor Gojong was 15 years old,
this is where he had his Garye with Empress Myeongseong.
(Garye: King's wedding ceremony(ritual))
Whenever Heungseon Daewongun chose a talented being, 인재를 발탁할때 마다
he made them pass by this inner gate no matter what
So the people back then called Norakdang's inner gate the gate way to the government post.
Alright then, shall we head to Unhyeongung Palace's last stop, the Irodang?
This place is another one of Unhyeongung Palace's Anchae, the Irodang.
After Emperor Gojong and Empress Myeongseong had their Garye in Norakdang, Norakdang was used as yoyal villa.
and it no longer served purpose as an Anchae.
So in 1869, for Budaebuin Min, this Anchae was newly built,
Irodang's Iro means two elders.
It also means Heungseon Daewongun and Budaebuin Min.
Plus, this Irodang's structure is quite unique.
It shows a formation of a square-shaped flat surface.
Now, let's head to Bukchon Culture Center
